About Rochester new york

The Greater Rochester area is located approximately midway on the south shore of Lake Ontario.  The metropolitan area extends southward from the lake about 25 miles on both sides of the historic Genesee River.  The central business district is located six to seven miles upstream overlooking the Genesee River and the Upper Falls.

Due to the close proximity of Lake Ontario the average high temperature for the year is 56.8°F.  Summer temperatures rarely reach 100°F, and winter temperatures rarely reach zero.

The Greater Rochester area grows a total of 14 major agricultural crops and is part of the Northeast Wine Route.  Thanks to the climate control offered by the Great Lakes and the Finger Lakes, New York State is the second-largest producer of domestic wine sold in the US.

The local growing season averages between 175 and 180 days, beginning with the last week in April and extending through the third week in October.
